Offshore wind turbine foundations are specialized structures engineered to support turbines in challenging marine environments, where they endure constant and dynamic forces from waves, currents, and wind. These foundations must be designed to withstand both environmental forces and the cyclic loading generated by turbine operation. Properly incorporating cyclic loading effects is essential for ensuring the foundation’s stability, durability, and safety, as it addresses critical factors like soil degradation, stiffness reduction, and the gradual accumulation of permanent deformations over time. This presentation will focus on the cyclic behavior of offshore wind turbine foundations, detailing how cyclic loading is accounted for in the NGI method and how these design procedures are implemented through advanced numerical simulations. Real-world examples will be shared to illustrate the methodology and its practical applications.

主讲人简介

Dr. Hans Petter Jostad is Technical Director at NGI with a PhD degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 1993. His main specialty is numerical modelling for offshore geotechnical applications. In the geotechnical software PLAXIS, he contributed to developing three constitutive models, including the widely adopted NGI-ADP model. During 2007-2018, he was also Adjunct Professor at NTNU. He has supervised many PhD and master students, and several have become Professors at renowned universities abroad or resource persons in the industry and established their own names in the Geomechanics: Professor Ariane Locat (Université Laval, Canada), Professor Gustav Grimstad (NTNU, Norway), Dr. Lars Andresen (Managing Director of NGI). He has a total of 171 published papers and 3680 citations. As a chair, he has organized 6 international conferences. He has been invited to deliver two Keynote Lectures and several Invited Lectures. He has participated in various consulting and research projects at NGI, many related to soil numerical modelling. He has hosted over 7 research projects from European Commission (FP7), Research Council of Norway (NFR), Joint Industry Project (JIP), etc.
