NGI's methodology for monopile design for OWT under cyclic loading

Purpose of the monopile foundation is to transfer all the loads from the wind turbine structure to the ground safely and within the allowable deformations satisfying Ultimate Limit State (ULS), Serviceability Limit State (SLS), Fatigue Limit State (FLS), and the target natural frequency. Ensuring pile driveability is also paramount in this process. Considering the cyclic behaviour of soil is crucial, given that the design of offshore foundations is governed by cyclic loading conditions. NGI employs a robust methodology, incorporating cyclic contour diagram approaches, throughout the monopile design procedure. This presentation delves into key aspects of the NGI approach, covering topics such as the design basis, cyclic properties, driveability considerations, limit states, and achieving the target natural frequency.

主讲人简介

Dr. Nallathamby Sivasithamparam is a computational geomechanics expert with a Ph.D. from the University of Strathclyde, UK (2011). Having served as a Marie-Curie research fellow at PLAXIS in the Netherlands for 2 years, he subsequently joined the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI), Norway.

With over 10 years of experience at NGI, Siva, as a senior engineer in the advanced geomodelling group, specializes in numerical analyses, development and implementation of constitutive models for cyclic behaviour, and creep.

He plays a pivotal role in leading the development of design tools at NGI, particularly in the realm of offshore wind turbine foundations, with a focus on monopile and suction-bucket designs.
